| Bursitis / Tendonitis | |||||||||
| The classic signs of inflammation are pain, heat, redness and swelling. Bursitis and/or tendinitis can occur in almost any joint, however, the shoulder, elbow, hip and knee are generally the most common areas of involvement. These joints have a cartilaginous covering over the bone, attaching ligaments, a padded sac (bursa) and glands which produce a lubricating fluid. The viscosity and chemistry of the lubricating fluids is controlled and regulated primarily by the body's glandular and nervous systems. If these tendons and bursal sacs are not properly lubricated, they may tend to become inflamed or hot. This would be somewhat like to moving mechanical parts that do not have sufficient lubrication and become hot and sometimes "freeze up". In the body this could be a frozen shoulder or other joints which lose some or all of their full range of motion. The problem may not become painfully apparent until the joint has become irritated by extended use or injury, but when it does, one of the more effective treatment approaches is the restoration of the normal nerve supply to the effected joint by gentle spinal manipulation which allows it to relubricate and heal naturally. |
